VGIN offers several web map services for customers and the public to use in their desktop GIS software. Available free are several base map layers for the Commonwealth of Virginia, including rail and hydrography. By subscription VGIN offers access by web map service to the Virginia Base Mapping Program orthophotography.
The available map services are:
• VBMP Hydrography image service
• National Hydrography Dataset image service
• NHD feature service
• VBMP Rail image service
• VBMP Rail feature service
• VBMP Imagery image service (subscription)
To access the free base map layers, using ArcGIS Desktop, add a ArcIMS server with the server name of https://gismaps.virginia.gov. To subscribe to the Virginia Base Mapping Program orthophotography web map service, contact Dan Widner to discuss arrangements.
