Emergency Management Mapping Application

The Commonwealth of Virginia is piloting the deployment of emergency management mapping software in the Virginia Emergency Operations Center, the City of Richmond, and the City of Charlottesville / Albemarle County. The Emergency Management Mapping Application© (EMMA©), a product of Towson University’s Center for GIS, will provide a GIS component to WebEOC©, Virginia’s existing Crisis Information Management System.

EMMA will enable emergency management personnel to share a common geospatial operating picture by facilitating viewing and manipulation of distributed geospatial data relevant to incidents. EMMA is already deployed in Maryland and will ultimately be deployed in the National Capital Region and across Virginia, thereby facilitating cross-jurisdictional coordination during emergency events.
