If you have already returned an order form to me and have opted to reimburse VGIN for hard drives, then you will receive your drive in the next week or two. If you chose to provide VGIN with a hard drive, then please arrange to get the drive to me so I can get the data copied for you. If you haven't returned an order form to me and would like to receive the data, just follow the instructions in the text from my original e-mail back in December. There have been some modifications to the delivery areas that I want to bring to your attention. Delivery Areas 2 and 3 have been modified because of changes in the delivery schedule from Sanborn. Some areas delivered earlier than expected while others are being delivered a bit later. The changes are reflected in the shapefiles that will ship with Delivery Area 2 and have also been included on the order form, map, and shapefiles on the VGIN website. The most significant change to note is the addition of a fourth delivery area. The Fairfax flight area, originally included in Delivery Area 2, has now been separated out into a separate fourth delivery. The processing of this area has been delayed, and VGIN is still waiting for an updated delivery date from Sanborn. We will provide you with a delivery date for the Fairfax area as soon as we receive more information. Just let me know if you have any questions. Due to the delivery schedule and the size of the dataset, we are splitting the 2007 delivery into 3 sections. We are also offering copies of the 2006 orthophotography if you haven't already received that dataset. We are also making the 2006 orthophotography available through an ArcIMS map service. If you need the connection information for that service, just let me know, and I'll forward it to you. We are currently working on developing a map service for the 2007 orthophotography. Information about the delivery process is available on the VGIN website at: http://www.isp.virginia.gov/stateactivities.shtml There are three links on the website pertaining to the data delivery: (1) Order Form - You can use this Excel spreadsheet to indicate your preferences for data delivery. The order form lists the amount of storage space needed for each dataset within each delivery area. There is also a separate worksheet with additional detailed storage information. Please note the large amount of storage space needed for the GeoTiff files. We are offering the option for you to provide your own external hard drive, but please be aware that you will need to provide us with a over a Terabyte of storage space for each delivery area. We have designed the delivery areas to fit on a 1.5 Terabyte external drive array that we purchase for $500. If you choose the "VGIN Drive" option, you will simply be reimbursing us for the cost of the drive, and you will most likely receive the data more quickly than if you provide us with multiple, smaller hard drives. Obviously, if you choose to receive only the MrSID files, storage space will not be a huge issue. (2) Delivery Area Map - This map illustrates the 2006 and the three 2007 delivery areas. The geographic distribution of the areas is directly related to the order in which we receive the data from the contractor. (3) Delivery Area Shapefile - You can use this shapefile to determine the exact geographic coverage of each delivery area. Basic metadata is included with this file and can be viewed using ArcCatalog. Please fill out the order form and return it directly to me. You can simply fill out the form in Excel, save it, and send it to me as an e-mail attachment. I would encourage each state agency to coordinate internally and place one order on behalf of the entire agency. Also, be aware that the availability date for each area listed on the order sheet is a "worst case" scenario. I fully expect that each area will be available well before the dates listed, but you never know what might happen during the orthophoto production process. I will send an e-mail to this list when each area becomes available. I will then begin copying the data in the order I received the forms from each agency, so sending the form back to me quickly will put you in the front of the line. We look forward to getting this new dataset out to you, so you can begin using in your daily GIS activities. Please let me know if you have any questions.
