Good Afternoon,

On Tuesday, parts of Big Stone Cap (Wise County) were hit by an EF-1
tornado. Damage was roughly in a 12 block area (3x4). The VDEM website
has a map showing damage photos, and photos from an aerial flyover were
taken, and will be up on the website later today.

The images are at an angle out the side of the plane, so are not easily
georeferenced. The area primarily seems to be residential, however I
wanted to pass the location attributes on to you all in case it affected
an area that was important to your respective agencies.

The approximate damage area is bounded by the following roads (RCL) -
Clinton Ave, W 4th Street, W 1st Street, and the River.

The approximate center of the damaged area is located at: 36.863005,
-82.781145.

This corresponds to the following Virginia Custom Lambert (Meters)
Projection coordinates: -292547,100968

The tornado crossed US-58 in Big Stone Gap, and a detour was placed
around the town. The detour goes from the intersection of Short Street,
and Cumberland Avenue on the West Side of Big Stone, north to 2nd
Avenue, east to E 5th Street, and then south back to the intersection of
US58 (Wood Ave) and E 5th Street.

If any of these areas affect your agency, and you would like more
information, please feel free to contact me at:
