Just over two years, VITA created the Integrated Services Program (ISP)
to better coordinate outreach to local governments for public safety
communications, GIS services, radio engineering and other VITA services.
The goal was to make it easier for localities to get the help they
need...whatever help they need, without having to navigate a maze of
different divisions and contacts at VITA. The regional coordinators
(Pokey Harris, Donna Brown, Sam Keys and Chris Hardesty) and the VGIN
Local Government Manager (Lyle Hornbaker) have been our front line for
providing these services. As the services they support have expanded,
the demand for services has increased tremendously, too. We are now at
a point that we need to expand the outreach effort in order to maintain
the high quality service that you have become accustomed to receiving.

As we looked at increasing the number of regions, we did not want to
create yet another regional scheme. As a result, we have adopted the
Homeland Security Regions developed by the Office of Commonwealth
Preparedness (OCP), which are coincident with the State Police
divisions. Since Lyle actually lives in the Tidewater region (Region
V), he has agreed to take on this region. Pokey, Donna, Sam and Chris
will continue to serve the regions in which they are located. We have
developed a map (http://www.va911.org/pdf/ISPRegionalRepAreas.pdf) that
depicts the transition from four to the seven regions. As you will
note, there are two regions that do not have names associated with them,
Northern Virginia (Region VII) and Appomattox (Region III). We are
currently advertising these positions on the Virginia Jobs website and
encourage anyone interested to apply.

We are very excited about this change since it will expand our ability
to assist you. Together we have accomplished much. We have just
concluded the second imagery acquisition and have distributed it to all
localities. We are nearly completed with the implementation of wireline
and wireless E-911 throughout the Commonwealth. Through the Wireless
E-911 Services Board grant program, about $20 million has been dedicated
to your local and regional E-911 and GIS projects that have had a
dramatic impact on the services provided to citizens in need. And the
list goes on and on, but now is not a time slow down. The demands of
our citizens, the rapid pace of technology advances and the never ending
pinch of reduced resources continues to drive us forward.

We are here for you, so please let us know how we can help...
