Greetings:

In last year's Wireless E-911 Services Board PSAP Grant Program grant
cycle, approximately one fourth of all grant requests, and nearly one
third of grant dollars awarded ($1.3 million), were for GIS-related
projects. Generally, monies were awarded for GIS data development and
maintenance hardware and software, outsourcing of GIS data development
and maintenance, improvement of data exchange efficiency between a data
repository and a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), and hardware and
software for public safety GIS applications.

It is anticipated that the number of GIS-related grant requests will be
a substantial proportion of all grant requests again this year. As such,
the Public Safety Communications Division and Virginia Geographic
Information Network (VGIN) of the VITA Integrated Services Program is
currently assisting the Wireless E-911 Services Board in establishing
prioritization guidelines for GIS-related grant requests for the annual
PSAP Grant Program.

In order to assist in establishing the prioritization guidelines, PSAPs
and local government GIS departments are being surveyed to determine
facets of GIS that present the greatest value to Wireless 9-1-1 and the
greatest need for grant funding. Please take this opportunity to
represent the PSAP community and make your GIS needs and priorities
known! The brief survey can be found here:
